DESCRIPTION
Enjoy the complete run of four volumes, 48-issues of the Apple computer edition of Softalk magazine. Published between September 1980 and August 1984, Softalk magazine uniquely captures the dawn of the microcomputer and digital revolution through its deep and broad editorial content.
Digitization and preservation of this collection was funded by, and is maintained and enhanced by grassroots Citizen Science/History projects; The Softalk Apple Project (
www.SoftalkApple.com) and
www.FactMiners.org. Together, these projects are creating a uniquely detailed metadata-annotated structural and content model of the magazine based on a full-graph interpretation of the CIDOC-CRM (#cidocCRM), the ISO International Standard Conceptual Reference Model for Museums.
The Softalk Apple collection is the first collection at the Internet Archive to support and provide collection metadata in FactMiners' #MAGAZINEgts (ground-truth storage) format. This XML-based metadata file is based on an integrated complex document structure and content depiction model. The publication-wide #MAGAZINEgts file is available here:
https://archive.org/download/softalkapple/softalkapple_publication.xml (13+ MB in XML format - Best to save as local document, then open with an XML editor rather than try to view/format in your browser). The current release of our #MAGAZINEgts metadata includes 5,000 and counting of 7,157 elements within the first/master dataset (all ads, any size or position) of #ML Machine Learning model-training page images and label masks. This evolving dataset is found in Metadata partition of this file. More soon. This activity is related to our applied research documented by our recent
#DATeCH2019 poster.
